RESEARCH
This month, IPD Translational Investigator, Dr. Ingrid Swanson Pultz, was awarded a Life Sciences Discovery Fund (LSDF) Matching Grant award of $250,000 for her research project entitled In Vivo Assessment of an Oral Therapeutic for Celiac Disease!
The goal of this LSDF funded work is to assess the efficacy, safety, and optimal dosing of Kumamax, an oral enzyme therapy for
celiac disease.

– The IPD hosted its first ever Mini Symposium on Dec 10, 2014! The topic was “Sweet Spots for Designed Proteins as Therapeutics” and speakers included: David Baker (director of IPD), K. Christopher Garcia (Stanford), and Tim Springer (Harvard).
Over 100 people attended to hear Dr. Baker give an introduction on new capabilities in protein design. Following this, Dr. Garcia’s spoke about his fascinating work on protein engineering in the receptor-ligand space and the symposium concluded with Dr. Springer’s talk on on integrin research and navigating his ssuccessful scientific career.
The rest of the day followed with smaller break out groups discussing the various ‘Sweet Spots’ wherein designed proteins really held an advantage as therapeutics or diagnostics. Scroll through below for a few pics from the day (Photos courtesy of Lance Stewart):
